Critically Important Speakers

Leland Melvin is a former NFL player, astronaut, engineer, author and executive producer whose remarkable career spans sports, space exploration and education.
He joined NASA as an engineer and later became an astronaut, flying on two Space Shuttle Atlantis missions to the International Space Station in 2008 and 2009, contributing to critical research and operations in orbit. He’s also served as co-chair of the White House’s Federal Coordination in (STEM) Education Task Force, and was the United States representative and chair of the International Space Education Board (ISEB), fostering global collaboration in space education.

What is this event?
This open house offers an opportunity to go behind the scenes at the White Mesa Mill – the only operating conventional uranium and rare earth element processing facility in the Western Hemisphere. The event will showcase how we are supporting the nation’s clean technologies, energy security and advanced manufacturing industries by supplying materials that are essential for everything from electric vehicles and smartphones to medical treatments and national defense.
Attendees will hear from expert speakers and panelists, tour the facility, meet our skilled workforce, and learn how Energy Fuels is helping to restore and strengthen the domestic supply chain for uranium, rare earths, vanadium, titanium, zirconium and medical isotopes.
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how these critical minerals are sourced and processed right here in the U.S., and the role this facility plays in powering nuclear energy, supporting high-tech innovation and advancing economic development in the Four Corners region.
How long should I plan to be there?
Who can tour the White Mesa Mill?
This event is open to anyone, and all are welcome. However, due to safety requirements, mill tours are only available to guests over the age of 18.
If you plan to tour the mill, please wear close-toed shoes and be prepared to engage in light activity (such as standing, walking and using stairs) for about 30 minutes. A safety hat and glasses will be provided.

I’m not from the area. What is the best way to get to the mill?
The White Mesa Mill is located near Blanding, Utah with regular commercial flights available into Cortez, CO (1 ½-hour drive to Blanding), Moab, UT (2-hour drive), Durango, CO (2 ½-hour drive), or Grand Junction, CO (3-hour drive).
Nearby accommodations are available in Blanding, Monticello, and Bluff, Utah and hotel blocks are available at Bears Ears Inn (Blanding) and Atomic Motor Inn (Monticello).
What can I do in the surrounding area?
